Mainland makes gestures of goodwill

As Lien Chan prepares to return to Taiwan, the mainland has made some generous gestures of goodwill.

Director of the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Chen Yunlin announced that the mainland will present two giant pandas to Taiwan compatriots. In another move, Chen said that mainland residents would soon be allowed to tour the region. He also said the mainland would open its market further to one of Taiwan's main exports. Six more species of fruit will be admitted, bringing the total to 18, and zero tariffs will be offered on 10 of these species.
