People from all walks of life on the Chinese mainland have continued to voice their support for the newly-enacted anti-secession law. As our reporter Zou Yue finds out, for business people and students alike, a common concern is improving communication across the Taiwan Strait.
To prop up the NPC's adoption of the anti-secession law, the Chinese Council for the promotion of Peaceful National Reunification, or CCPPR, met in Beijing on Wednesday to voice opinions on the law. Vice chairwoman of the council, and and also vice-chairwoman of CPPCC, Liu Yandong, said the law was made to protect rather than harm the Taiwan people's interests.
Liu Yandong, vice chairwoman of CCPPR, said, "Nobody cares more about the interests of Taiwan compatriots than we do. In the process of the country's reunification, we shall listen to the opinions of our Taiwan compatriots and work with them for our mutual benefit. "
Since its establishment 17 years ago, the CCPPR has been championing the call to bring both sides of the Taiwan Straits together again. The passing of the law has clearly given more momentum to this endeavor. Economic exchanges have been a focus for members on both sides from the business world.
Huang Ziyu, CPPCC member, said, "The legislation has clarified the way ahead for cross-straits relations and provides transparency for our Taiwan investors on the mainland."
Li Jianhang, CCPPR councilor, said, "The exchange of human resources and personnel between the two sides has been on the rise. As computer makers, we are having closer cooperation with Taiwan counterparts."
Also voicing support for the newly-enacted law is the All China Youth Federation, mainly composed of young entrepreneurs, artists and students. Their concern is active dialogue with Taiwan counterparts.
This week, anti-session law discussions have gained foremost prominence on the Chinese Mainland's political scene. Opinions were heard from different walks of life, but the message from all was clear -- to endorse government efforts to stave off Taiwan secessionists, and bring about a peaceful reunification of China.
