Chinese community in Sydney support anti-secession law

Leaders of the Chinese community in Australia's largest city of Sydney have expressed their firm support to China's adoption of the anti-secession law by the National People's Congress (NPC) Monday.

Frank Chou, honorable chairman of the Australian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China (ACPPRC), said the new law will be conducive to stabilizing the tense situation across the Taiwan Straits and curbing the "Taiwan independence" secessionist force. He described the law as one that conforms to the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation.

He called upon the Taiwan authorities to give up the attempt towards "Taiwan independence" and work for the reunification of the motherland.

ACPPRC Chairman William Chiu said in a fax sent from Beijing, where he attended the NPC, that he was very excited to have witnessed the passage of the anti-secession law at the NPC.

He aid that "Taiwan independence" secessionists' activities have posed a serious threat to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity and put at risk the peace and stability in the region.

"The adoption of the law has been extremely necessary and very timely," he said.

Tony Goh, chairman of Australian Council of Chinese Organizations, said in a statement that the law will be of historic importance to the safety and stability of Taiwan provinceand the Asia-Pacific region at large.
