Two Spanish journalists have been released, two hours after they were abducted by unknown Palestinian militants. This coincides with an announcement that Palestinian parliamentary elections will be held in July.

The two journalists, who work for the El Pais Spanish daily, were kidnapped by a group of militants, as they were visiting the refugee camp of Khan Yunis. Palestinian militants groups, affiliated to the mainstream Fatah movement and radical Hamas movement, denied responsibility for abducting the two journalists, saying they coordinated in looking for the journalists and the militants who abducted them in the area. Acting Palestinian President Rawhi Fattouh condemned the incident, saying it ran contrary to the militant groups' agreement to not attack journalists and international observers. At the same news conference, Fattouh announced that Palestinians will hold parliamentary elections, their first since 1996, on July 17.
