Spokeswoman says Arafat in coma

A spokeswoman for Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has announced that he is not brain dead, but remains critically ill in a coma. Speaking in a radio interview on Friday, Leila Shahid said Arafat is at a critical juncture between life and death.There have been conflicting reports about the fate of the 75-year-old Palestinian leader, who was airlifted to a military hospital near Paris a week ago. Earlier French and Israeli media reports said Arafat had died, but both Palestinian and French officials denied the reports.
