Official: Arafat cleared of leukemia

An official medical report says that Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat does not have leukemia. According to the Palestinian representative to France, Leila Shahid, clinical examination and initial tests at the Percy military hospital have confirmed an abnormal blood count.

The Palestinian leader possibly also has a problem with his digestive function. But specialists have ruled out a diagnosis of leukemia. Shahid said Arafat has been able to converse with his doctors, close relatives and colleagues for the past two days
