China steps up control of poultry imports

China has intensified inspection and quarantine measures for imported live poultry and eggs from countries without cases of bird flu.

The State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has ordered all imported poultry must be transported by air directly after arriving at entry ports. And domestic transport routes must also bypass infected areas. A comprehensive rapid reaction mechanism has been put into operation to deal with any emergency outbreaks.
