China's Ministry of Agriculture says the spread of the bird flu has been brought under control in infected areas in Guangdong, Guangxi, Gansu, Yunnan and Jiangxi. However the Ministry reports four new suspected outbreaks, in the northern port city of Tianjin, and in Hubei, Yunnan and Shaanxi Provinces. No human infections have yet been found in the country.
This is the Xingning area in South China's Guangxi Autonomous Region, where new suspected bird flu cases were reported at a local farm on Sunday. All the birds have now been killed, and the farm has also been disinfected.
He Qingqing, CPC Deputy Secretary of Xingning Prefecture, said, "We're carrying out rigorous disinfection measures in every nook and cranny -- the chicken and duck pens and the breeders' homes -- so we can control and contain the spread of the bird flu."
Check points are being manned by police and villagers at every road
entrance to the quarantined area, while details of passing vehicles are recorded and their tires disinfected.
Similar emergency measures have been taken in affected areas in nearby Guangdong province.
Inspectors from the central government headed to major areas hit by the bird flu Sunday to see whether local authorities were implementing state policies on bird flu prevention and control.
