Experts meet to cope with bird flu

Experts have met in Beijing to pool ideas on preventing bird flu. Vice Premier Hui Liangyu chaired the meeting and stressed strong leadership and effective collaboration are the key. A reporting system is in place between China, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, and the WHO.
The participants of the meeting are focusing on popularizing quarantine technologies. They've vowed to work out more scientific ways to prevent the disease.
Vice Premier Hui Liangyu says it's important to make the most of the scientific research on the animal epidemic, and speed up the development and production of an effective vaccine. He's calling for a bigger research budget.
The Vice Premier stressed cooperation with international organizations and the flu-hit countries. Hui Liangyu says international cooperation will benefit all concerned. He also promises China will make public its epidemic information.
A regular reporting system has been established between China and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the World health Organization. More experts from the two international organizations are expected to arrive soon in Beijing to help China deal with the disease.
China says it won't stop importing poultry products processed in accordance with quarantine standards from unaffected countries. Meanwhile, South Korea, Singapore and Japan are allowing imports of Chinese poultry products processed at high temperatures. Cooked poultry and eggs from unaffected provinces can be exported to Hong Kong and Macao.
Quarantine authorities are keeping the public informed through media on the measures to prevent the disease, including deep burying and incineration.
