In Germany a man hospitalized in Dresden for possible symptoms of bird flu has tested negative for the virus.

A spokesman for the Social Affairs Ministry in Saxony State said on Wednesday that blood and saliva tests at a state veterinary laboratory were all negative. The spokesman refused to give details about the patient, who was hospitalized on Tuesday.

A local daily reported he was a Vietnamese citizen who had just returned from Vietnam, where he had worked on his brother's chicken farm. On Tuesday, authorities in Hamburg determined that a woman hospitalized after returning from a trip to Thailand was also free of bird flu.
