Two German women who have been holidaying in Thailand are being examined for possible bird flu infection back in Hamburg.
The two women returning to Germany from Thailand are being checked for bird flu symptoms at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg.
The institute has declined to comment on the suspected cases but a spokeswoman from Germany's National Center for Viral Infections said the two women were unlikely to be infected with the virus. She referred to the statement from the World Health Organization, which said on Monday that the strain of bird flu cannot spread easily between humans, despite one suspected case in Vietnam.
