FAO praises China´s handling of bird flu

The UN Food and Agriculture Organization representative has commended China's measures for dealing with bird flu. For two weeks, the FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture have been in consultation on eradicating the highly contagious virus.

Gamal Mohamed Ahmed praised the Chinese government for its effective measures and immediate action to contain the spread of bird flu. China has sent officials and experts to affected areas to supervise mass cullings, a method Ahmed calls effective.

The FAO representative also says his organization has started a cross-border project on preventing animal viruses. The FAO has declared itself ready to give technical assistance to countries in need.
