EU suspends import of pet birds from Asia

With growing concerns over the bird flu, the European Union is pushing to ban the import of exotic bird pets from Asia. EU veterinary experts are also backing the proposal.

Member states support the ban despite doubts as to the necessity of the move from the European Commission, which is the executive arm of the EU. Meanwhile, European animal health experts have been sent to Vietnam to help combat the country's Avian Influenza epidemic.
