Taiwan has decided to slaughter about 20,000 chickens infected with a strain of bird flu at a farm located in the central region of the island.

The strain of bird flu was the H5N2 virus, a less virulent form of the H5N1 virus discovered in Vietnam. The virus found on Taiwan island is not fatal for chickens. It is also not transmittable to humans.

Despite this, Taiwan agricultural authorities have decided to kill all the chickens on the farm to prevent any possible mutation of the virus.
