Chinese overseas students celebrate safe landing of Shenzhou-V

Chinese overseas students and the visiting scholars have gathered in the Chinese Embassy in the United States to celebrate the success of the Shenzhou-5 mission and the safe return of Yang Liwei.

On Thursday morning, more than 100 Chinese overseas students and scholars gathered in the Education department of the Chinese Embassy in Washington to watch CCTV's live broadcast of the return of Shenzhou-5. The excited viewers have sent telegrams of congratulations back to China, and expressed their great pride in China's achievement.

"The success of China's first manned space flight is being viewed as one important step towards a potential giant leap to the peak of technological achievement," Li Feng, an overseas student said.

"As a Chinese overseas student, I am very excited and proud about today's success. Shenzhou-5 puts China's high in the ranks of achievers in the world of technological development," Zhao Zhihua, an overseas student said.

"This is China's achievement in the development of technology. It is also the result of China's reform and opening-up policy," an overseas Chinese scholar said.

The overseas students said that the success of Shenzhou-5 has strengthened their confidence about returning to their homeland, and dedicating their learning to the further progress of Chinese technology.
