In 2005, Cao Peng, who was in his eighties, and his eldest daughter Cao Xiaoxia co-founded the Shanghai City Symphony Orchestra, China's first non-professional symphony orchestra. The founding vision of the orchestra was to extend support to children with autism. In 2008, they also founded the "Angel Salon" to offer free music education to autistic children.
