French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, has promised 400 million US dollars in aid for quake-stricken Haiti. France has already said it was canceling all of Haiti's 77 million dollar-debt to Paris.

The aid includes reconstruction money, emergency aid and 40 million dollars to support the Haitian government's budget. Sarkozy said the country needs a reconstruction plan to shift people from Port-au-Prince to Haiti's outlying provinces.
