Iran's first lady speaks at Rome Forum

Iran's first lady has made rare public appearance and given a speech at a forum on the eve of the UN FAO summit.

The wife of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Azam al-Sadat Farahi, attended the forum of "wives of heads of state" on Sunday. Farahi, described Iran as an example in the fight against hunger. She said her country's system guarantees food security for all families, while following religious teachings.

She also appealed to the first ladies "to initiate an appropriate food consumption pattern" in order to provide "basic rights for women including food, clothing and housing."
