Palestinian President Abbas visits West Bank city of Halhoul

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has visited the West Bank city of Halhoul, near Hebron.

Hundreds of Palestinians lined the streets to catch a glimpse of Abbas. The supporters called on Abbas to nominate himself for another term in office.

After visiting Halhoul, where he waved from the balcony to a crowd of cheering supporters, Abbas continued on his tour to the nearby town of Hebron, attending a ceremony to open a new road.

There he had a meal with children at the local orphanage. Abbas announced on Thursday that he Would NOT run for another term in an election scheduled for January, citing deadlocked efforts to revive peace talks.
