South Korea's Yonhap news agency says the DPRK has test-fired a series of short-range ground-to-ground missiles off its east coast.

The launches involved five KN-02 type missiles. Two of them were fired on Monday morning, and the rest in the afternoon. They were launched from missile bases located between North Ham-gyeong Province and Gangwon Province. The DPRK had issued a navigation ban in waters off its east and west coasts from October 10th to the 20th.The missiles have a range of between 100 and 120 kilometers. They were first displayed in April 2007 at a military parade in Pyongyang to mark the 75th anniversary of the Korean People's Army.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has commented on the reports of missile launches by the DPRK. She says the US will continue to work toward a nuclear-free Korean peninsula. And US consultations with partners and allies will continue.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, "It is unaffected by the behavior of North Korea. We pursue this goal, like we pursue all of our national security goals - through obstacles, overcoming challenges, a persistent patience that doesn't have any guarantee of outcome, but is a very important way of us building a coalition and creating the space to try to demonstrate clearly to the North Koreans that the international community will not accept their continuing nuclear programme."
