The Romanian-born German writer Herta Mueller has won the 2009 Nobel Prize in literature.
The Swedish Academy recognized Mueller for her ability to depict "the landscape of the dispossessed." Her works reflect the experiences growing up in Romania.
Muller made her debut with a collection of short stories in 1982. Her works have been translated into many languages.
The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced Friday and the economics award on Monday.
