Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has discussed the issue of Jewish settlements with US Middle East envoy, George Mitchell during a meeting in London. And they agreed on the need to resume Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
After four hours of talks, Netanyahu and Mitchell agreed that all sides must take practical steps to advance peace.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, said, "We've made some headway in the past five months, my government has taken several steps, both in word and deed to advance the cause of peace, and I hope that today and in the coming weeks we can move that process forward."
Over the past few months, the US administration has been urging Israel to freeze settlement activities in the West Bank to help revive the Middle East peace process.
George Mitchell, US Mideast Envoy, said, "We appreciate the opportunity to discuss with you ways by which we can move towards our common objective which is a comprehensive peace in the Middle East and in accordance with President Obama's vision and your vision we look forward to achieving that, hopefully in the near future."
