With a population of around 5,000-6,000, Dulong is one of the smallest minority groups in China.

In the past, girls would get tattoo at the age of twelve. Granny, whose name is Mu sho lan, tried to explain to me how her face was tattooed.

It's raining again. But this rain is very soothing. It rains about 300 days out of a year here. And the natural scenery is so gorgeous here, the mist coming out from the mountain constantly, and the only non-polluted river, runs across the valley, Dulong River. We guess only in this kind of environment, can you have the mysterious, ancient, primitive, yet most hospitable people - Dulong people. Even 100-year old granny, Mushiulan, is very friendly to visitors, she would pose with you, she'd let you take pictures of her tattooed face."

Mr. Ache is the famous King of Lisu folk song.

In Lisu way of drinking greeting wine, people drink from the same cup!"

"Do you have any songs about greeting wine?"

It seems that Ache never runs out of songs. And what impressed us most is his ability to improvise to occasion.

Singing runs in the blood of Lisu people. Only started to use written language about a century ago, Lisu people relied heavily upon singing as a communication tool.

They sing during festivals big and small, they sing to celebrate, to solve problems, to pass down legends and culture.

A lisu instrument called Qibei. Ache made this Qibei himself. He went to the forests on the mountain, got the best wood, and carved it into an instrument.

I've never felt so close to my spiritual side before. And as the Lisu song suggests, once you've been to Nujiang Valley; you know deep down in your heart that you'll bring along the memory with you wherever you go. And may our friendship last forever!
