Learning that Chief Pan's brother is a renowned herbalist in the area, I insisted that he brought me to his house and pay a visit.

According to Chief Pan, without much of formal school education, his brother taught himself everything about herbal medicine.

Host: Can these flowers I just picked outside be used as herbal medicine?

Pan: Yes. There are seven different kinds of such plant in Nujiang area. We would pick the flower, dry it, and drink it as herbal tea. It is good for the throat.

Xiaolan: This might be the potion of youth people have been looking all the time.

And it's got a quirky name: once in a thousand years, of course named by Mr. Pan, who is quite an interesting character.

Host: Do I have to drink it everyday to achieve the desired effect?

Pan: Yes. There are four precious herbals in it. Nobody ever used these herbals before in Nujiang area.

In this small storage room there are over 350 different kinds of herbal medicines, all collected and processed by Mr. Pan himself.

Host: Is that herbal medicine in the basin?

Pan: Yes. I just picked these up three days ago. Haven't got time to process it yet. It can be used to strengthen one's kidney.

According to Chinese herbal medicine, there's a certain category of medicine that is good for men's kidney, which can be translated into a potency medicine. So this is a potency medicine.

Host: Does it only grow on high mountains?

Pan: Big ones like this can only be found at humid places 1,800 meters above sea level.

Xiaolan next destination is Ziken village, also mainly populated with Lisu people, and nestled between high mountains.

Auntie Wu told Xiaolan there's gonna be a big part, a big activity today at the village. Everybody has to dress up for that. So it's my dressing up time!"
