Ningbo part one
The story took place in East Jin Dynasty 1600 years ago. Zhu yingtai, a girl with passion for books, went to a private school dressed up as a boy since women were not allowed to go to school at the time.
There she met a fellow student named Liang shanbo and spent three years together studying.
Of course, Zhu fell in love for Liang hopelessly, but Liang never realized that Zhu was a girl. Finally before she left for home, with the help of her teacher鈥檚 wife, Liang learned the truth and promised to propose marriage to Zhu鈥檚 father.
But as the case with Romeo and Juliet, the love between Liang and zhu was also star-crossed.
It turns out that Zhu鈥檚 father already promised marriage of his daughter to the son of the mayor and wouldn鈥檛 change his mind. Liang Shanbo soon died, heart-broken.
Legend goes that while Zhu Yingtai passed by Liang鈥檚 tomb on her wedding day, the tomb split up and she jumped right into it. Then, two huge butterflies flew out of the tomb, allegedly the spirits of Liang Shangbo and Zhu Yingtai.
Truth or legend, the indisputable fact is that the love story of Liangzhu has become part of Chinese culture. Many operas, movies, and music were later written upon the theme. And for local people, Liang and Zhu have even become something like gods of love.
396, this is not just a number, this is actually the number 396 couple that鈥檚 been blessed by the eternal love between Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. People hope the love between them will grow as robust as this beautiful tree.
