Trip to Guizhou southwest

Around May is the time for the Sister's festival for the local Miao ethnic group in Southeastern Guizhou around Kaili area. I was there for the holiday last year and enjoyed myself tremendously. The spectacular silver of the Miao girls and their dances as well as the warmth with which they invite you to a drink or dinner is so spontaneous and luxurious.

Last year I had such a great time that I couldn't resist the temptation to go back. So I did it this year. The weather was not that good, but for mile after mile, the fields along the highway between Anshun and Guiyang, capital of Guizhou, were carpeted by blossoming yellow flowers which send out tantalizing fragrance. It's the rape plant flower, from which people produce canola oil. The scenery is breathtaking and only available during March and early April. Guizhou's charm likes in its untoughed beauty and incredible originality. The only way to savor the feel is to be there for yourself.
