A US think tank says Tehran appears to be running out of uranium, which it needs to feed its enrichment program.
The Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security is basing its calculations on 2008 International Atomic Energy Agency statistics.
It says Iran has already used up about three-quarters of its uranium supply. In a November report, the IAEA noted that Iran had stopped producing uranium gas from purified uranium ore, or uranium oxide.
Iran's enrichment program is built on 600 hundred tons of uranium oxide imported from South Africa during the 1970s. The US think tank speculates that the stockpile is diminishing rapidly.
