Pakistani troops kill 8 Taliban militants

2009-11-15 12:30 BJT

Pakistani troops have killed eight insurgents in gun-battles in the Swat Valley.

Pakistani Army spokesperson, Major Mushtaq Ahmad said they were killed by the Pakistani army on Saturday in an operation to target militants in the north-west frontier area. A large quantity of weapons and ammunition were also confiscated. The army claims to have killed more than 1,800 militants in the operation in the Swat valley over the summer. The top Taliban leadership in the valley has fled and remains at large. Most of the two million displaced people have returned home, but the continuing violence shows the Taliban still have not been eliminated from the region three months on from the start of the offensive.
