Voters formed long queues even before the polling booths opened. The results of the general election, the first in four years, are expected to be known by early Monday. Due to great voter enthusiasm, turnout could be higher than the previous general elections, which reached more than 67 percent.
Meanwhile, the Japanese government has released figures showing over 10 percent of eligible voters nationwide cast their ballots in early voting, representing a record level of enthusiasm among voters to elect their leader.
