Simon Cowell's charity single for Haiti has been released. The "American Idol" and "The X-Factor" judge says he was asked by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to help with the relief effort for quake surivirors.

Cowell did what he does best by calling in favors from the biggest names in music.

He put them to work in front of microphones around the world, each singing lines of a cover version of R.E.M.'s 1993 ballad "Everybody Hurts."

Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, Cheryl Cole, Michael Buble, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Gary Barlow and members of Westlife and JLS are among the stars performing on the single.

It also features Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi, "X-Factor" winners Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry, Mika, James Morrison and Kylie Minogue.

The video shows black-and-white footage of some of the singers recording their lines, as well as news coverage of the aftermath of the Haitian quake.

British newspaper The Sun has been involved in putting together the all-star line-up and says R.E.M. agreed to waive royalties. The money raised will be split between Disasters Emergency Committee and The Sun's "Helping Haiti' appeal.
