Palestinian child dies of wounds in Khan Yunis

A Palestinian child who was injured two weeks ago by Israeli fire in the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Yunis died Saturday of her wounds at the hospital, medics said.

Palestinian medics at the European Hospital in southern Gaza said Najah Zo'rob, 12, who was shot and critically wounded in the head, died Saturday evening.

The Israeli army carried out a large-scale military operation in the western area of Khan Yunis two weeks ago, in which at least a dozen Palestinians were killed.

The Israeli army said the aim of the operation was to prevent Palestinian militants from firing homemade mortars and rockets at nearby Jewish settlements.
