More than 6,000 Japanese rallied in central Tokyo on Saturday. They were demonstrating against a controversial history textbook, which glorifies Japan's colonial rule and wartime ravages in Asia.
The textbook, recently approved by the Ministry of Education, has been strongly criticized by Japan's neighbors, including China and South Korea, as distorting Japan's history of aggression. The protestors called for the textbook to be boycotted, and for it not to be adopted at middle schools.
