Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

MACAO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Macao Red Cross said on Tuesday that it has so far received around 3.6 million patacas (450,000 U. S. dollars) in donations from local people for earthquake victims in Haiti.

Part of the donations collected by the Macao Red Cross, more than 800,000 patacas (100,000 dollars), will be remitted to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement within this week, a spokesman of the Macao Red Cross said.

Previously, the Macao Red Cross had already sent a sum of 800, 000 patacas to the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which was used to assist the quake relief operation in Haiti.

Since Macao is distant from Haiti, the Macao Red Cross intended to rely upon the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to allocate the donations collected in Macao, and there were no plans to hold large fund-raising event for Haiti earthquake victims for the time being, the spokesman said.
