Pakistani journalists in mourning at press club attack

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani journalist community is observing the Mourning Day in Peshawar Press Club in the country's northwest on Wednesday, the second day of a suicide attack targeting journalists.

According to sources, additional police contingents have been deployed at the press club gate while journalists, belonging to different school of thoughts, are constantly visiting the club for registration of their solidarity with journalists, local TV channel GEO reported.

At least four persons, including a police guard, were killed and 25 others injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the main gate of Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday.

A large number of journalists also have been visiting deceased guard Muhammad Riaz home to offer condolence with his heirs, sources said.

An investigation team has been constituted to probe into the suicide attack. Meanwhile, Peshawar trader community has announced extension of support to journalists' three-day mourning observation.

In the southern province of Sindh, provincial Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza has issued directives to law enforcement agencies to tighten the security measures across province in view of suicide attack on press club building and for the lunar month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
