Pakistan rejects Iranian Ambassador statement

2009-10-19 08:52 BJT

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan has rejected the presence of head of the Jundallah group in Pakistan.

The private NNI news agency quoted Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit as saying that the Iranian ambassador's statement about the presence of head of the Jundallah group was wrong.

The Iranian ambassador said that the Jundallah group is involved in the Sistain-Baluchistan province attack in which some 30 people including five senior commanders of the elite Revolutionary Guard, have been killed in a suicide bombing in southeastern Iran.

Basit said that the war against terrorists in Pakistan's tribal area of South Waziristan reflects Pakistan's commitment that it will not allow its soil for terrorist activities in any country.

The spokesman said Pakistan and Iran are cooperating in the war against terrorism as both countries enjoy friendly relations.

Pakistan is not involved in terrorist activities, he said, "we are struggling to eradicate the menace of terrorism."

He said that such statement could sour relations between the two countries.
