PYONGYANG, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The official news agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday reported that Yukio Hatoyama had been elected prime minister of Japan, two days after the election was closed.
The KCNA news agency said Hatoyama, president of the Democratic Party of Japan, was elected prime minister in a majority vote at a special Diet session held on Sept. 16. It gave no details of the election.
The DPRK and Japan have no diplomatic relations.
