Moderate earthquake hits central Taiwan

BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Taiwan at 9:00 a.m. Sunday (Beijing time), according to a statement of the China National Seismological Network.

The epicenter, which is 6 km deep, is located at 23.7 degrees north latitude and 121.0 degrees east longitude, about 40 km away from Nantou County in central Taiwan and 160 km from Taipei.

No casualty has been reported so far.
