MOSCOW, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Four militants were killed on Saturday in a special operation in Russia's North Caucasus region of Ingushetia, the Interfax news agency reported.

A group of gunmen were blocked by security forces near the border of Chechnya, another North Caucasus region, Saturday morning, a local law enforcement official said.

Four militants died in the clashes and the rest of them managed to escape, the official said.

Although the Kremlin's operation against separatists and terrorists in Chechnya has officially ended, militant attacks and clashes still plague the North Caucasus region.

The leader of Ingushetia, Yunus-bek Yevkurov, was injured in an assassination attempt last month.
