L'AQUILA, Italy, July 8 (Xinhua) -- On behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao, State Councilor Dai Bingguo attended the leaders' meeting of China,
India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico (G5) on Wednesday afternoon in the earthquake-torn Italian city of L'Aquila.
The leaders, including Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and President of South Africa Jacob Zuma, exchanged views on various issues like tackling global financial crisis, regulation of global financial system, climate change and non-traditional security threats.
Dai delivered a speech to the meeting on behalf of Hu, expounding China's position on the above-mentioned major international issues.
The leaders' meeting of the five leading developing countries (G5), presided over by Mexican President Felipe Calderon, was aimed to strike a common position for the outreach session of the G8 Summit, to be held later Thursday.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Hu cut short his stay in Italy and returned to Beijing due to the situation in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
