Health authorities on the Chinese mainland say 16 more people have tested positive for the A/H1N1 flu virus in the last 24 hours. This brings the number of confirmed cases on the mainland to 141. Hong Kong and Taiwan have also confirmed 71 and 37 cases so far. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization held a joint news conference in Beijing. They confirmed 90 percent of the Chinese mainland's confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases had originated overseas and that the spread of the disease is controllable.

Health Ministry Spokesman Mao Qun'an says Chinese mainland's first A/H1N1 flu case was confirmed on May 10th. The first flu case that was caught in China was confirmed on May 29th. Both types have seen a sharp increase in numbers since, but Mao said the situation is under control.

Mao Qun'an, Spokesman of the Ministry of Health, said, "Most of the cases originated overseas, and all the cases have traceable infection sources. But the number of cases scattered around China is rising and it may lead to sustainable communication in the communities."

Mao said the vast majority of cases have occurred in major urban areas, which all have frequent overseas travel links, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and Fujian.

He pointed out that all the patients have so far experienced mild symptoms, and there hasn't been a single fatality.

Mao Qun'an stated that the origin of virus in China is the same as the one from the United States, Mexico, Canada and other countries.

That means there's been no sign of any mutation in the virus.
