Pakistani authorities have brought treason charges against a top pro-Taliban leader for making anti-state remarks in April.
Sufi Muhammad is the father-in-law of Taliban leader Maulana Fazlullah in the Swat Valley.
He is accused of aiding terrorism, sedition and conspiring against the government. In February, Muhammad brokered a peace deal with the Pakistani government to impose Islamic law in Swat.
The deal collapsed in mid-April after Taliban militants infiltrated a district south of Swat.
