Afghanistan's president has been drumming up support during his first campaign rally in the capital. President Hamid Karzai promised to hold international troops more accountable for civilian casualties, house raids and arbitrary detentions.

President Karzai has done little public campaigning ahead of the August 20 elections, as he is widely expected to win.

However, on Friday, about three thousand people crammed into an assembly tent in western Kabul to hear Karzai speak.
