Chinese leaders meet US Treasury Secretary

US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner concluded his two-day visit to China on Tuesday with meetings with Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao. They reached consensus in tackling the global economic downturn. And the two sides agreed to hold the first meeting of the U.S.- China Strategic and Economic Dialogue this summer in Washington.

Timothy Geithner's first trip to Beijing as Treasury Secretary laid the groundwork for the first China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue.

He met President Hu Jintao on the last day of his visit. President Hu Jintao said two-way relations have seen forward momentum as both sides maintain close contact with each other.

President Hu reviewed his first meeting with US President Barack Obama in London in April when both agreed on building a positive and comprehensive relationship as well as launching the new negotiation mechanism known as the Strategic and Economic Dialogue.

They agreed to hold the first round of the dialogue in Washington D.C. in July. President Hu said the two sides should work closely, and step up preparation to ensure the dialogue is a success.
