Giuseppe Tornatore, a well-known Italian director, was invited by the VISION BEIJING Organizing Committee to shoot a five-minute- promotional film for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

During his visit to Beijing, Tornatore toured a lot of places in Beijing, including its ancient hutong, the prosperous Oriental Plaza and Jingshan Park. He showed great interest in each Chinese person he met during his visit.

Yesterday afternoon, Giuseppe Tornatore spared time to meet the press and talked about his feelings. Tornatore said that he was curious about this charming oriental country. "To me, people in Beijing are very enthusiastic. I am touched by the living atmosphere in Beijing. Beijing is a dynamic city; it gives me a lot of inspiration. I will bring my film back in September. We have to let the audience tell whether it is successful."

In the VISION BEIJING project, each of the five famed directors invited to work here must portray the many charms of Beijing in only five minutes, and in their own styles. It will be no easy task.

Tornatore said his five-minute film will neither be an advertisement nor a documentary, but it would have a complete scenario. Love is a needful element in his works, so Tornatore said: "The film has a storyline so there must be roles in it. And love should be included. Music is a very important part in my works, but I haven’t figured out how to use it well."
