James Chau has hosted World Insight for the past year, working closely with the reporters and producers as they investigate, write-up and film each week's program. He brings to the team a background in politics, having studied the subject as part of his postgraduate degree at Cambridge University. You can also see him during the week as anchor of CCTV News.

In December 2004, James arrived in Indonesia on the same morning as the Indian Ocean Tsunami, but he has also covered breaking stories in 15 cities across Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East. These include the September 11th terrorist attacks, the SARS outbreak, HIV/AIDS, China's entry into the World Trade Organization, and President Hu Jintao's first White House visit.

James has interviewed a wide range of personalities from the worlds of politics and arts. Amongst them Malaysian Defense Minister, Najib Tun Razak; US presidential candidate, Ralph Nader; Hong Kong Chief Executive, Tung Chee-Hwa; photographer/designer, Lord Snowdon; Oscar-winning® film producer, David Puttnam; singer/songwriter, Suzanne Vega; and a sixtieth birthday special with the former King of Greece, Constantine II.

Before joining CCTV, James was a news reporter and presenter in Hong Kong for Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB Pearl) and has contributed to the Sunday Mirror, Evening Standard and the Daily Telegraph. Born in London, he studied at the Royal Academy of Music, King's College London and Cambridge University (where he was Varsity News Features Editor). He became a Freeman of the City of London in 1999.
