Hamburg leveled the match at 66 minutes. Ivica Olic's shot was blocked and Guy Demel drove the ball through an Olic deflection inside the post, making it 1-1.

The match went into a penalty shoot-out, and Werder goalkeeper Tim Wiese stepped up. He stopped Marcell Jansen's shot to confirm Werder's 4-2 victory and set up a final clash with Bayer Leverkusen.
