tournament.

The USA's Jason O'Bannon opened the scoring four minutes and forty-four seconds after the whistle. And that was just the start of their high- scoring game. Jamie Zimmel's goal late in the second quarter helped the US establish an eight-point advantage over China. The host's first goal came in the third quarter. Meng Qingyuan deflected the puck from a teammate, but the goalkeeper blocked his first shot. Meng immediately shot again and changed the score to 9-1.

The Chinese side played inspired hockey after that first goal, and worked hard to reduce the deficit. But American Sean McWhorter utilized an error from his opponents to help the US regain a nine-point lead with a two-on-one attack. The second goal for China came near the end of the game. Meng Qingyuan again took the puck to the goal and guided a return pass from Cui Zhinan into the empty net. There were no more goals for the rest of the match, and China had to settle for a 10-2 loss.
