Special Report:   Harbin 24th Winter Universiade

YABULI, Northeast China, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Hoshi Mizuewon the women's giant slalom in a combined time of 2 minutes 18.20 seconds at the Harbin Universiade here on Tuesday.

Hoshi finished the first run in 1:09.78 and followed up with a perfect 1:08.42, winning Japan the first gold medal from Alpine skiing at the Universiade.

Anne-Sophine Barthet of France wrapped up two slaloms clocking 1:09.13 and 1:09.52, 0.45 second adrift of Hoshi.

Polish Katarzyna Karasinska was third, 0.48 second behind the winner, in 1:09.48 and 1:09.20 apiece.

Hoshi's 1:08.42 was the best run down the Yabuli Alpine skiing giant slalom course.

Double gold medal list Tamara Wolf from Switzerland was seventh, 1.33 second away from Hoshi. Wolf won the downhill and super-G on the track on last Saturday and Monday.
