Special Report:   Harbin 24th Winter Universiade

HARBIN, Northeast China, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese speed skating duo, who finished 1-2 in last Saturday's women's 3,000 meters, again stepped on the podium here Tuesday for the women's 5,000m race at the Harbin Universiade.

Dong Feifei, having been placed on the second in both the 1,500mand the 3,000m, made a successful late effort for the title after clocking seven minutes and 19.76 seconds, five seconds plus over the Universiade record.

Fellow Chinese Fu Chunyan, who won the first speed skating gold for China here on Saturday, took the silver medal with a time of 7:20.38, narrowly beating her pairing rival Luiza Zlotkowska of Poland to the third place on 7:20.43.

The host missed another long-course specialist Ji Jia for Tuesday's final after its top skater Wang Fei announced to quit all the events at the Universiade for a long-term consideration for next year's Winter Olympics.
