After the Spring Festival holiday, Wells kept delaying his return to the team, and it badly impacted the club's regular schedule. After negotiating with his management company, Shanxi decided to end its contract with Wells. The 32-year-old used to play alongside Yao Ming with the Houston Rockets. He was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 1998 NBA Draft. Wells averaged 12.5 points, and 4.6 rebounds in his 10-year NBA career when he played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and the Rockets. He joined Shanxi last summer and contributed a game-high 48 points in his debut against Tianjin.
